Drifting away in Dreamworld
If congress and its UPA lose 2014 general elections, one of the key person they can thank for that is Digvijay Singh.
Congress is living in a dreamworld of its own and Diggy has a part in creating that dreamland. Congress believes that a sop here and a statement there coupled with creating a danger alert about BJP can bring Muslims and weaker sections in droves to vote for congress.
They would do well to remember Lalu Yadav's fate. His MY(Muslim-Yadav) strategy didn't save him at all. Caste combinations alone can't win any election. National elections are these days combination of various state level-national elections.
Digvijay's loss in MP to BJP after two terms as chief minister cannot be forgotten. He was voted out based on popular perceptions of lack of roads and power - in summary lack of development. BJP is in power for the last two terms in MP. To go with his strategy of catching votebanks and painting others red would not help in the national election.
That congress's strategy is flawed showed up in Bihar. Even in UP, congress won seats mostly because of people's dissillusionment with SP there. Columnists site that congress won in many constituencies where Rahul didn't campaign at all. First and foremost, people want roads, schools, bridges, security, prices under control, less corruption etc., Their vote is based on their perception and not based on that week's inflation percentage released by the government or their sops.
The PM may personally have respect. But people are increasingly becoming impatient with him remaining a mute spectator to open squabbling among his ministers, corruption and non-performance. To make Raja resign when there was no other go after 2 years won't make people jump with joy. The government presents a picture of a noisy old vehicle with bad spare parts that doesn't perform well.
The drift has set in completely.

The politics of aam aadmi is just a gimmick. Atleast if we had Vajpayee's govt again in 2004 we could have progressed much better. Now that there is a leadership vaccum in BJP we dont really have an alternative. Hope some good person would come to lead the country and make us prosper.
ReplyDeleteI think the best bet would be Sushma Swaraj in BJP. Remember, many didn't even knew Vajpayee until 1996. Sushma now has some amount of respectability across the political spectrum. The only competitor is Arun Jaitley, but he is a rajya sabha person and not a lok sabha person... Let's see. It is in the country's interest that BJP and NDA get their act together in strength for 2014 or earlier.
