Confusion doesn't Solve Anything!

I don't understand what we achieved - apart from looking like impossible jokers. We invited someone to talk "something" without defining that "something". He came and blasted us for all world to see - the world powers need him so they won't speak a word. The entire government is eerily silent after that hell of a press conference by the Pakistani Foreign Secretary - even the normally tough talking home minister is completely silent. And after blasting us so heavily, Pakistan gets to say that India "is not willing to talk" while they are open to "discuss on any issue".

The problem is that the government doesn't seem to be sure whether to talk or not to talk. We either talk or we don't. This business of "talking about something because we anyway have to talk" will get us nowhere except where it got us to this time - a seat in the loser's council.

We need to understand something - that Pakistan will never be sincere about really talking and resolving the Kashmir dispute with India. Their idea of resolving Kashmir is to get the whole of that state. Other issues could be resolved by talks because they don't have great emotions and history attached to them, but Pakistan won't ever be satisfied with all of that.

I believe the government does understand that, but the problem is on what to do. MMS wants a place in history, but we won't get that through these half-baked initiatives. I think there should be two things going on simultaneously:

1. Talk to Pakistan - direct, result oriented talks involving the Pakistani Army in the background; Only that will be meaningful; And don't switch it on and off every now and then;
2. Look inward - Strengthen our defense mechanism, capabilities and equipments; modernize our central and state forces so that they are well coordinated and respond better to any situation; build up our infrastructure; grow our economy.

I think as we grow from strength to strength in point 2, point 1 will start yielding results, because no one can ignore us or take us lightly then. So, next time a terror attack happens, don't stop talks, but talk really tough to Pakistan in that whatever-talking-mechanism while publicly giving picture of being mature and restrained in response. But increase the focus on point 2. Without focus on point 2, point 1 is useless. And we have the man-power and brain-power required to make point 2 happen.

But for whatever mentioned in point 2 to happen, the administration has to be streamlined to be suited for today's India's needs. We can't be seriously thinking that the administration structure created by the Britishers for their benefit can really take care of us for now and for ever. If we think that way, apart from lop-sided and uneven growth and some talks and peace initiatives here and there, we won't get anywhere. All we'll ever be growing is MNS and Raj Thackarey type of people who will take us further back in time.

  1. True, We should also use the opportunities like 1971 war to make Pakistan fall to its knees. Had we done that, we could have concentrated on the development issues than cross border political issues.

    With muslims, talk doesnt yeild any results. They are always violent people, crooked in their intent and actions. So instead of fooling the world that India and Pakistan are talking peace, we should probably show our military strength to silence our enemies.
